Jets PS-Series

Plasma jets of the PS-series

The plasma jets of the PS-series are atmospheric 2.45 GHz plasma sources in the power range between 10 W and 250 W. The physical advantages of the 2.45 GHz plasmas (microwave plasmas, MW plasmas in short) have been verified in many scientific publications. These new jets now offer practical users, as well as scientists, the possibility of using these advantages for a number of the possible implementation areas. In addition to the 250 W generator, HHF also offers three different jets over large power ranges and different spray patterns.

Characteristics of the PS-series microwave plasma jets – a brief overview:

    • High-purity atmospheric 2.45 GHz plasma with power ratings up to 250 W (CW operation)
    • Activation / cleaning / repead heating of diverse materials ans shapes including plastics and thin foils
    • Can be used for all gases (two classes of jets: Noble gases (argon) and the rest)
    • Line jets and shallow jets for hot and cold applications
    • Optimally suited for hand and robot (100% potential-free)
    • Extremely low energy requirements
    • Extremely handy and if necessary a short model
    • Robust jets in stainless steel housing
    • Maintenance-free and wear-free

Product overview – PS-series plasma jets

The PS-series plasma jets can be used in the power range between 10 W and 250 W supplied microwave power (significantly higher in pulse mode). The plasma jets consist of a stainless steel housing, as well as Teflon and various temperature-resistant copper alloys as electrode feed, high-voltage transformer network, as well as electrodes. There is no tungsten, and thus oxygen and air can also be used as process gas. This means that these jets allow all non-aggressive gas as process gas. The electrodes are wear-free and maintenance-free. Spectroscopic measurements confirm that no electrode material is found in the plasma. Thus a pure gas plasma is guaranteed.

The various jets of the PS-class are presented below. At this time the PS jet is only offered as 250 W and the PS-Ar jet is only offered as 100 W versions.

The jets of the PS-class use an innovative head, optimized to activate surfaces with air or argon. The PS-jet can be used as air-plasma jets among other things. Therefore the known physical advantages of the 2.45 GHz air plasmas are also available for treatment of heat-sensitive surfaces (such as thin foils). You obtain the best activation results with extremely fast process treatments. The PS-jet is referred to as line jets. This air jets have by low air flow distinctly higher plasma temperatures, than do the activation process.

The jets of the PS-Ar class use the process gas argon by output power between 10W and 100W. These argon jets allow an activation of materials with a low smelting point. The jets generate a very stable plasma with high reproducibility.

The newest jet of the PS-class supports a air plasma by output power up to 500W. This jet is particularly suitable for replacing natural gas and hydrogen burners. The energy efficiency estimated by HHF is better than the hydrogen burner by a factor of 3.

A microwave plasma is a cold plasma in which only the light electrons are accelerated. On the surface of the metal there is an enhanced recombination of the electrons with the ions. This then produces the great heat that causes in Fig. 5 the metal (copper in this case) to glow at only 250W of microwave power. No energy passes by the metal tube. The plastic cup is heated solely by the thermal radiation of the metal tube. The full video is on: https://youtu.be/KW4eUCSawEE

The MW plasma jet has an efficiency about a factor of 3 higher than a hydrogen burner when heat is generated from electrical energy!
